This day of remembrance is a public holiday in Canada to faciliate services which take place in towns througout our country and the media makes sure that we do not forget our debt to those who sacrificed their lives so that we can enjoy freedom today. This is reminiscent of what Christ has done for us.
Martin and I never visited Cliff College as we always seemed to be on holiday whenever the Grange Fellowship contingent went there. We were either visiting my parents in Wales or on our annual monthly camping holiday on the continent. However, we were thrilled that Peter Haughey organised these trips and we know that our young people loved going there and were always blessed. The reason that among all the photos I scanned and submitted in the Photo section of the Grange Fellowship website there were none of Cliff College. Martin was the photographer of all the photos I added to illustrate the story that he has written about our Youth Work.
I am therefore very appreciative that David Crumpler first took these films and then forty years later very kindly took the incentive to have them made into DVDs which we all are now able to enjoy. For you who experienced the Cliff College retreats, I am sure that these Video clips will bring back so many memories. I have just looked at them again and it is wonderful to see so many Grangers there with Peter driving Blodwen. I was particularly touched to see our dear Sikh friend Puri Singh who was one of a number of Sikhs who were faithful participants at our Friday bible studies. They came as a response to Ann Schonberger ’s invitation to attend our Friday meeting. Ann met them one evening at a bus stop and then turned up that evening with about 6 Sikhs in tow, most of whom were lawyers.
I don’t know if you had heard that Puri Singh was already promised to a beautiful lady in India and later married her. We still cherish a photo taken with them when Nina joined him in London. They subsequently had two delighful sons but in the early eighties Puri died as a result of a cerebral aneurism which ruptured. He was in his late forties. On one of our visits back to the UK we spent an evening with Nina and the boys and although he had been dead for a number of years Nina told us that she was still heart broken. If you look at the photos of the Dive, you will see that Puri is also in the slide helping us to renovate the Dive.
Again this annual visit to Cliff College was made more enjoyable, less expensive and more fun thanks to our dear beloved Blodwen.
According to a comment made by Geoff on Youtube, who met up with the Grange Fellowship and worked at Cliff College, these videos are dated Whitsun 1967. To see Geoff’s comments double click on video.
Some lovely recent photos of Ann (Schonberger) King and her family have now been added under Updates.
As you can see from our front page Martin has provided a great introductory video. Martin also continues to write the on-line Grange history, which is drawing to a close with Chapter 14 : Reflections and Analysis.
